Planning Framework

Clear Scope, Clear Schedule: The Remodel Planning Framework

Most delays are preventable. This framework shows how disciplined planning keeps your project moving.

1) Define the Scope in Writing

A written scope of work prevents assumptions from turning into change orders. List what is included, what is excluded, and what decisions are still open. If something matters to you, it belongs in the scope.

2) Set Allowances with Clear Ranges

Allowances are placeholders for selections not finalized yet. Set realistic ranges for items like fixtures, lighting, and tile so the plan remains accurate when choices are made.

3) Sequence the Work Before It Starts

A reliable schedule is built from a clear sequence. Demo, rough-ins, inspections, drywall, cabinets, and finish work each have dependencies. If the sequence is right, trades can stay on schedule without waiting on each other.

4) Lock Decisions to the Schedule

Selections should be made before the trade needs them. Late changes disrupt ordering and install windows. A good plan sets decision deadlines and keeps you informed of them.

5) Document Changes Immediately

Changes happen. What matters is how they are documented. A clear change process keeps scope, schedule, and budget aligned.
